About
In this retreat we are exploring the meeting points of movement with stillness and our practice will include embodied movement, interaction and meditation. 'I dance for no reason, for reason you can’t dance' - Saul Williams
Engaging in meditation, we enter the unknown, a dance with ever new experience. Entering into this dance in movement improvisation and meditation, we bridge the gap between stillness and engagement. Easy physical improvisational exercises will help us to become more present, and open to more light and joy. This will enrich our attention within and outside of meditation with the spirit of discovery.
We can apply what we notice in the physical experience straight to our meditation. The atmosphere will be supportive, playful and appreciative. ‘The Play of Now’ helps us to be present and engaged in this moment, leaving the next one to come freely without being weighed down by our plans or assumptions.
Everyone attending will have practised meditation; some have done so for years. There might be people who are familiar with to movement practices and improvisation – or not. All participants will be able to deepen their own research of the interrelatedness of movement and stillness. The retreat will be held in English.
The function of the practice is to be still, that we can be still in the midst of movement, we don't have to move with movement. So there's a letting go or a disconnecting with our usual pattern of reactivity. And the reactivity arises because we think it must be something to do with us
- James Low, Emerson College 2024 About the place: Boeddhawierde (‘mound of Buddha’) is a retreat centre in Usquert, a tiny village in the North of the Netherlands. It is placed in a quiet street, opposite the church, with friendly neighbours and playing children, a car crawling by about three times a day, and possibly the sound of a lawnmower. So it is not completely silent, but still a very suitable place to meditate and calm down. At the rear is a beautiful garden, in which you can sit and where you are completely alone. - Around Usquert there is the dutch polder – flatter than flat. You can go for walks and explore the old local villages. Please book directly with Boeddhawierde, or contact me if you want more information.
